Influenza Vaccine
- Due to H1N1 pandemic, the WHO has recommended H1N1 influenza vaccine for people, including elderly and people with underlying medical conditions.
Pnumococcal Vaccine
- Most cases of Pneumonia are of bacterial origin. Pneu-mococcus is the most commonly responsible.
- Pneumococcal vaccination is recommended as routine in patients undergoing splenectomy (at least 2 weeks prior) and as optional in susceptible individuals like elderly prior to winter months, patients with underlying lung disease like ILD, COPD etc.

- It is almost universally fatal in absence of a post exposure prophylaxis
- Disease is endemic in states like Delhi, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal and Orissa.
- It is potentially preventable through vaccination.

- Additional target groups include those who frequently require blood or blood products, dialysis dependent, recipients of solid organ transplantations, injecting drug users, household and sexual contacts of people with chronic HBV infection, people with multiple sexual partners
